Retention of Newly Certified Teachers by Initially Certified Year - Statewide

Methodology:

This report shows the number of teachers initially certified and employed as a teacher. Those teachers continuing in a teaching role are counted in subsequent years (columns). Teachers who leave and return are counted upon their return to the teaching role.

This report is longitudinal and shows Texas public school district counts of teachers by role and certificate class for multiple years.

Certification counts in current and prior years may change over time as updated certification information is received. The 'As Of' date means the TPEIR database contains all certifications and educator testing data available prior to that date. In general certification data and educator testing data for an entire school year is available in October or November following the school year. Prior to this time, the certification and testing data for a school year is incomplete.

Data Elements:

Role. The role identifies the capacity in which a person serves. Examples of roles are teacher, art therapist, and superintendent.

Certificate Classifications. Certificate Classification is Certificate or Permit.

School Year. The reporting period consisting of the fall, spring, and summer semesters that begins generally in September and runs through the following August. Fall 2001, spring 2002 and summer 2002 comprise school year 2001-2002, also referred to as school year 2002.
