Teacher Production By Certification Area - Initial Certification Count by Organization and Program

Methodology:

This report provides the number of initial certifications by the certifying institution, certification program, certification area and school year. To be included in a school year, the effective date must be between September 1 and August 31 of the given school year. Only initial teacher certificates (Provisional or Standard) are included in the number.

Disclaimer:

Certification counts in current and prior years may change over time as updated certification information is received. The 'As Of' date means the report contains all certification data available prior to that date. In general, certification data for an entire school year are available in October or November following the previous school year. Prior to this time, the certification data for a school year are incomplete.

Data Elements:

School Year - The reporting period consists of the fall, spring, and summer semesters that begin generally in September and run through the following August. For example, Fall 2001, spring 2002 and summer 2002 comprise school year 2001-2002, also referred to as school year 2002.

Certificate - State issued credential to an individual to teach in Texas public schools after completing all state mandated requirements.

Initial Certification - An educator's first full teaching certificate of a particular type.

Certification Program - Identifies the different training programs an individual may choose to obtain a full teacher certificate. The most popular programs are Standard and Alternative. Five programs are included in this report:

• Standard programs are often referred to as traditional or undergraduate programs and offered by colleges and universities. These programs are designed for undergraduates seeking certification
• Alternative and Post-Baccalaureate programs are for those who already have a college degree.
• Certification by Exam is available for educators who already hold a full Texas teaching certificate.
• Out of State programs are available for educators who already hold a full teaching certificate outside of Texas.
• Jamison Bill cetification is not currently offered. but may be included in reporting for previous years. (The Jamison Bill route was similar to the post-baccalaureate route and was available to individuals with a bachelor's degree.)
