Teachers Employed by Certification Type - Statewide

Methodology:

This report shows counts of teachers employed in Texas public school schools in each role by Certificate Class (Certificate or Permit) for the state of Texas for a series of years. There are three specific roles recognized as "teacher" of a classroom. These are: Teacher, Special Duty Teacher and Substitute Teacher. A person that teaches with a Permit and a Certificate can be counted twice in this report. (Source: SBEC Educator Preparation Credentialing System and TEA PEIMS staff data)

Data Elements:

Role. The role identifies the capacity in which a person serves. The three specific roles recognized as "teacher" of a classroom are Teacher, Special Duty Teacher and Substitute Teacher.

Certificate Classifications. Certificate Classification is Certificate or Permit.

School Year. The reporting period consisting of the fall, spring, and summer semesters that begins generally in September and runs through the following August. Fall 2001, spring 2002 and summer 2002 comprise school year 2001-2002, also referred to as school year 2002.
