Teacher Production By Certification Area - Longitudinal Certification Count, Statewide by Program

Methodology:

The numbers on this report are grouped by the certifying institution, certification area, and the certification effective date. To be included in a given school year, the effective date must be between September 1, XXXX and August 31, of the following year. Only full certificates (Provisional, Professional, Standard and Standard Professional) are included in a school year.

Prior versions of this report may have erroneously contained all credential types, but as of February 25, 2005, this report was revised to only include the full certificates (Provisional, Professional, Standard and Standard Professional).

Data Source (SBEC Educator Preparation Credentialing System)

Disclaimer:

Certification counts in current and prior years may change over time as updated certification information is received. The 'As Of' date means the TPEIR database contains all certification data available prior to that date. In general certification data and educator testing data for an entire school year is available in October or November following the school year. Prior to this time, the certification and testing data for a school year is incomplete.

The current reports are as of August 18, 2006.

Data Elements:

School Year. The reporting period consisting of the fall, spring, and summer semesters that begins generally in September and runs through the following August. Fall 2001, spring 2002 and summer 2002 comprise school year 2001-2002, also referred to as school year 2002.

Certification Program. Identifies the different training programs an individual may choose to become a fully certified teacher. The most popular programs are Standard (STD) and Alternative (ALT). The STD programs are for those undergraduates seeking certification from colleges and universities. The ALT programs are for those that already have a college degree. Another program type, Post Baccaularette (PB), is also for those that already have a college degree. Other programs included in the report are Certification by Exam (HB), Vocational Experience (EXP), Jamison Bill (JB), and Out of State (OOS). For more information on the many programs please visit this link: http://www.sbec.state.tx.us/SBECOnline/certinfo/becometeacher.asp.

For some records, especially older records under earlier data collection systems, a certifying institution was not entered into the system; therefore, the Program is unknown and is listed as "Unknown."

Certification Area. There are 14 Certification Areas. They are represented on this report by their abbreviation as follows: BIL = Bilingual/English as a Second Language, CIS = Computer Information Systems, ELA = English Language Arts, FIN = Fine Arts, FOR = Foreign Language, GEL = General Elementary, HPE = Health and Physical Education, MAT = Math, OTH = Other, PRF = Professional, SCI = Science, SOC = Social Studies, SPE = Special Education, VOC = Vocational Education or Career and Technology.
